What inspired you to start your own company?
I have always been interested in beauty products. In 2003, my passion for indulgence and products had not wavered. After using loads of different products on the market, I couldn’t help but feel as though something was missing. I thought that the beauty world needed a line of cremes, suds and scrubs with infused with decadent, nourishing ingredients accompanied by sophisticated packaging and a sassy, fun concept. I whipped it all together and Cake Beauty was born.
What were some of the steps you took prior to launching Cake Beauty?
Before launching Cake Beauty I spent many years testing products and when it came to creating my own collection, I spent endless hours researching ingredients online and in books, testing formulations on everyone I could find and working hard to create the perfect scent and namesake to match.
How has your business venture evolved since start-up?
Cake Beauty has evolved a great deal since start up. Originally I mixed every product in my kitchen, labelled each product and shipped it all to customers. I am still integrally involved in the creation of each product but the manufacturing has fortunately moved out of my kitchen! Also, at Cake Beauty we are now paraben and petroleum free, which I'm very proud of.
How would you describe your personal/business style? Classic? Casual? Funky?
Absolutely eclectic. I love to mix and match and really create my own look. A little bit classic and a little bit rocker.
What were you looking for in a laptop bag and why did you choose the Clark & Mayfield Parkside?
I love the Parkside first because i love white, and the studs on the page give me the rocker and edgy look that i really think is fun. I also adore the attention to detail and the striping in the inside of the parkside. The colour combination is perfect and i love carrying this bag around with me to all meetings.
What's in your career bag? What day-to-day essentials do you carry around?
My career bag has, well, my laptop of course! The other essentials in there include my blackberry, a small little bag of touch up products, absolutely Satin Sugar Hair and Body Refreshing Mist and Powder, just to refresh quickly before meetings or after a long day!
